What is executive coaching at The Inner Advocate?

Executive Coaching, Generally.

Executive coaching is when a highly trained coach meets one-on-one with a high level professional and offers a trustworthy, structured, and deep-thinking conversation for that person. Executives, who often feel alone at the top, appreciate having an unbiased thinking partner when talking about their unique professional or personal challenges. Executive coaching, therefore, is the most individually tailored offering for a person’s professional development.

The Process.

During professional coaching, the coach supports the professional to clarify current goals, identify and work through limitations, and, ultimately, formulate appropriate action steps toward professional or personal success in defined areas.

Confidentiality.

One essential aspect of executive coaching is the close and confidential relationship between the coach and the person being coached. As a professional coach, I follow the confidentiality standards set forth in the Code of Ethics of the International Coaching Federation (“ICF”). (The Code of Ethics of the ICF can be found here.)

Coaching as a Profession.

Unlike certain regulated professions like law or accounting, the coaching industry is not nearly as highly regulated. Many people claim to be coaches but do not have the professional training to back the claim. Before hiring a coach, ask to see proof of their training / qualifications. What Coaching is Not.

As an executive coach, I am not licensed as a professional therapist, psychologist, counselor, or social worker. When I am professionally coaching, I am also not a consultant, teacher, or mentor. And, just as important, I am not acting as a lawyer. While I am a licensed attorney-at-law (Ohio, U.S.A.) and a non-practicing solicitor (England and Wales), a coaching relationship with me does not result in an attorney-client relationship nor does it lead to any kind of attorney-client privilege.
